The Association is based upon the foundation of a safe and secure place for children living with no parental care. As such, the Association today continues this through:
Institutional Care
Although a solution of last resort, the Association
provides ongoing support to children who are living without parental care. The Children’s Village provides a safe, secure, clean and friendly environment for the children/youth to grow.
Children living within the children’s village are provided with all the necessities to live and grow in a comfortable and relaxing environment and it is considered home once they arrive.
Children stay within the children’s village until such time as they graduate secondary school, secured employment and a process of reintegration is commenced and succeeded. Ongoing support is provided to those who have left the facility until they are independent. Further, support continues if tertiary education is undertaken.
Since late 2014, Menchen für Menchen Switzerland has been financing the children Welfare Project, Institutional Care, and other key projects we undertake. In previous years, Abebech Gobena Charity with the generous support of many individuals and donors could save the lives of thousands of deprived children. Without the assistance of community minded individuals and international nongovernmental organizations such as Menchen für Menchen Switzerland, our dreams would not come true.
Abebech Gobena Charity undertakes a process of reunification and reintegration with children/youth.
It undertakes a process to identify if there are any living relatives of children living in the Children’s Village then, undertakes a process to see if these family members are in a situation to take proper care of the children. This enables the child to live within the community and with members of their own (extended) family.
Reintegration allows children to continue to live within the community which they were raised. This process also provides support to adjust to life outside of the Village.
Abebech Gobena Charity with the assistance of international donor MINF and Menchen für Menchen Switzerland undertakes a foster care program. This allows children to live within a family unit, which is unrelated to them, in the community. It provides a family environment within the community for the child to grow like any other family member.
Through the generosity of many local and foreigner individuals as well as international organisations such as Plan International we receive monthly or quarterly amounts of money to provide children within the Village and within the community support. This allows families to provide basic necessities and enable children to attend school.
